DIY Light Box for Product Photography

I was ready to purchase one.
what was i thinking
Then I did a bit of quick Google research.

Found what a few looked like and said, I can do this myself!
And I don't need to purchase much.

So, if you are looking to showcase some of your pretties,
this is the way to do it for less than $5.

Let's get this started!

Materials:
~ Old box, preferably 12" x 12" x 12"
{I used an old diaper box - FREE}
~ Packing tape or duct tape
{I have packing tape since I ship out items - FREE}
~ White tissue paper
{Had some from b-day party supplies - FREE or $0.99}
~ Exacto Knife
{Had one - FREE}
~ White foam sheet 10" x 18"
{purchased for $0.99}
~ Hot Glue Gun

Gather your supplies and find a table to work on.

You will take your box and using your Exacto Knife, cut out the bottom piece.
Then, leaving about a 1" boarder, cut out "windows" in each side and the top.
Do not cut out the back!

Now it is time to put on your white tissue paper.
Cut out squares that will cover your windows.
Mine were about 3/4" larger than the windows.
Using either packing tape or duct tape, tape down the tissue squares.
I taped around all 4 sides of each piece.

Next, take your foam sheet and using hot glue,
glue it to the back of the box.
I did have to trim about 1/4" off the side of the foam sheet for it to fit.
Since there is no bottom on your box, the sheet will fold out and become the bottom.
And I suppose, if you wanted, you could have left the bottom on there.
I didn't just in case I want to use a different bottom!

And there you have it!
Your very own light box or light tent/photography tent/macro studio.

Check out how well these items photographed in it!
I just used my flash on my camera.
No need for fancy lighting!

The above bracelets are a new accessory coming to {SIG}!
And tomorrow I will host a giveaway for a set of 3 with matching ring!

Check out how pretty Miss Melanie's bows are!
No need to focus on anything else but the cuteness.

Now that is what I call a cheap project.
Makes it look professional!
Best part is if you need a bigger box, you can do it as well.
Instead of using a foam sheet, try a piece of white cardboard.
Still cheap!

Enjoy & Happy Monday Peeps!

Illness after Illness...

This time it caught up with me and the hubs.
And it took us out for a few days.
No sewing.
No kids.
{shipped them off to the grandparents}
No eating.

Just lots of visits to the bathroom.
Good times.

But now I am back!
And I have a few tutorials/projects up my sleeve.

Here is what I am looking at doing...
~ dyeing muslin/gauze
~ adding rick rack to Susi skirts
~ adding a fabric trim to Susi skirts

I also want to write about some sewing tips I find helpful.
Again, I find myself apologizing for the lack of posts.
That is the biggest issue in raising triplets,
finding time to do anything uninterrupted.

I only have 5 weeks left of the kids in school.
Then they will be home full time until late August.
I'm gonna have to find us some projects to do!

If you have any great kid friendly projects,
please share them with me!

Skye Reve Fabrics & {SIG} Pattern ~ WINNER

I hate having a sick child.
Especially when that child is my son.
He went through a serious complication at the age of 10 months from the flu.
Fevers are not welcome in this house.

But luckily we made it through last night.
And he is going to the doc this afternoon.
Hopefully he will get some meds to help him feel better.

But enough about that!
I've got a winner!

Here is our lucky number...

 Lucky #5 belongs to...

Jennie, please contact me at signature.creations@hotmail.com!
We are excited to see what you create with your winnings!

Happy Sunday Peeps!

Newest Addition ~ The Millie Skirt

I love when I have creative bursts.
With the kids always around, it doesn't happen as often as I would like.
But the other day, while they were napping,
I was able to sit down and plan for an upcoming photo shoot.

For some reason, the fabric choice (to be a surprise)
inspired me to start sketching and thinking of new skirt ideas.
And was born the Millie Skirt!

I love when an idea on paper comes out better after being made!
I cannot wait to make more of these skirts.
It is perfect for any girly girl out there.

Here are my girls wearing the Millie Skirt.
It is such a girly skirt.
I absolutely adore it!

If you like the bows, Melbows Place is who we use to stock solid colors
but she also makes beautiful custom pieces!

This prototype was made and the sash is a bit long.
I double tied it to make it work.
Makes it look even more feminine.

Can't wait to work on the next design!
I hope everyone

Easter Egg Applique Tutorial

Need something cute AND quick for Easter?
I whipped up these shirts and matching Susi skirts in about an hour.
I know my girls will love hunting eggs in these bright creations!

Materials:
~ Piece of scrap fabric
~ Embellishment trim such as rick rack or ribbon
~ Heavy Duty Wonder Under
~ Shirt (mine is from Walmart for under $4)
~ Iron & ironing board
~ Sewing machine & thread
~ Paper and writing utensil

Fold a piece of paper in half.

Draw an egg shape.
{oval with the top part smaller}
Cut out your "egg".

Trace egg on to the paper side of the Wonder Under.

Place the rough side on the wrong side of the fabric and iron.
I hold the iron on for about 15-20 seconds.

Rip off the backing of the Wonder Under.
Place your egg on the shirt and iron.
You could also make 2 eggs and layer!

Go to your sewing machine and top stitch around the egg.
I used a triple stitch so that you can really see it.

Using your embellishment goodies, place it across the egg.
I kept it simple by using some grosgrain ribbon and rick rack.
I also used some Stitch Witchery to tack down the grosgrain
but you don't have to, just top stitch to keep in place.

Go back to your sewing machine and stitch across to keep everything in place.
Again, I used a triple stitch so that the line across the rick rack was defined.

Here ya go!
The finished product.
And the neat thing is you could actually put 2 eggs,
more embellishments or anything else you can think of.
I kept it simple in lieu of time!

I think my girls will be "egg"cited to wear these tomorrow!
I hope you are having a fabulous Easter weekend!

Time keeps on ticking, ticking, ticking...

in to the future...
{a little bit of a time space continuum if you please}

Now, I swear that it was only March 15th yesterday.
And somehow today it is already April 3rd.
This concerns me.

Simply put, March flew by.
It is gone.
My birthday (March 15th), the kids' birthday (March 31st).

And now we are getting ready for Easter.
I just don't know anymore.
I swear that 1 week is equivalent to what use to be 1 day.

Besides birthdays, the "Wild about You" week for
Teacher Appreciation kept me busy, busy, busy last week.
What sucks even more?
I didn't get any pics of what we did for them!

I know, bad.
But I did make the kids cute outfits in animal prints.

And of course, little man had to have something as well.
He picked out black/white giraffe print with orange thread!

I absolutely adore how Gabi is holding Sofi's hand.
Sisterly love, I never got to experience it but I already see how special it is.

Now, my goal is to make an Easter Egg Applique tutorial by Friday.
Wanna place bets to see if it gets done?
